Ali Kara was born in Amasya (Tasova) in 1972. He received BS degree from Erciyes University, MS degree from Cukurova University and PhD degree from Hacettepe University, all in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. He has been to Polytechnic University (ECE) between 1999-2000 as a part of PhD study (first as a visiting scholar supported by TUBITAK), and then he continued as a research assistant in a project sponsored by Symbol Technologies (Motorola). At Poly, he conducted experiments on radio propagation, studied channel modeling for short range indoor radio links and urban enviroments for modern wireless communication systems (WLAN, Bluetooth, GSM, CDMA). He joined Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Atilim University in 2000, and devoted himself to founding the Department. He has published 40+ papers in refereed journals/conferences, and coordinated several national/international projects in the areas of radio propagation, remote/virtual laboratories and electronic defense systems. In one of the projects, he led a group at Atilim University to develop a remote laboratory platform on RF and Communications, with a support from European Commission (ERRL). On the other hand, he has been working (part time) with TUBITAK-BILGEM on some defense and security projects since 2006. He has been serving a member of Technical Program Committees of various conferences including ITHET, SIU, URSI-TR, and a reviewer for many international journals, including those of IEEE and IET, and a member of Editorial Board of ISRN Education. He is a senior member of IEEE, member of Chamber of Electrical Engineers (EMO) in Turkey, and member of Association of Old Crows(AOC).
