Course Objectives The aim of this course is to teach the fourth-year students to translate from French into Turkish within the scope of the French certificate program launched in the Translation-Interpreting Department. The contents of the course are to translate French and Turkish texts selected from various occupational fields, from literature and from current issues during the lesson together with the student and to correct and assess during the lesson the text translations given as homework; make interpreting exercises during the lesson; to make a preparation for consecutive and simultaneous interpreting through discussion and commenting on the films watched.
Course Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • To gain the skill to translate written texts from French into Turkish and from Turkish into French.
  • To gain the skill to summarize and interpret a written text.
  • To gain the bi-lingual interpreting skill.
  • To improve the skills to read, note-taking and summarize verbal texts.
  • To gain the skill to translate moderately difficult texts of economy, law, medicine, social sciences and scientific and technical texts from French into Turkish.
  • To gain comprehensive information on language and terminology peculiar to economy, law, medicine, social sciences and scientific and technical field.
Course Content Various translation practices using texts on literature, social sciences and culture from French into Turkish.
