About the Department
Electronic commerce, or e-commerce for short, is a business model that allows companies and individuals to buy and sell goods and services over the internet. E-commerce operates in four market segments. These are; consumer to consumer, consumer to business, business to business and business to consumer. E-commerce is a trade that can be done without the need for large equipment compared to other trade models. It can be easily carried out with the help of computers, smartphones, tablets and other smart devices.
In 2022, e-commerce achieved a market share of 5.7 trillion dollars worldwide, representing 5.7 per cent of the global gross product of 100.2 trillion dollars. The share of e-commerce in global retail sales was 22 per cent.
In Turkey, the e-commerce sector reached an economic size of 801 billion TL in 2022, which corresponds to approximately 6% of the Gross Domestic Product. The announced figures show that e-commerce has grown between 2.2% and 3.5% on average every year, especially after the pandemic. In 2026, the global e-commerce volume is expected to be $8.15 trillion and $1.8 trillion in Turkey.
The rapid increase in the population in Turkey every year, the continuous increase in the rate of use of internet and mobile channels, positive developments in logistics and payment systems, the high rate of young population and the ability of this young population to adapt to new technologies easily and quickly contribute to the development of the e-commerce ecosystem. Our department curriculum is prepared according to the needs of the sector. Our curriculum includes theoretical courses such as Social Media Management, E-marketing, Consumer Behaviour, Advertising in the Digital Age, as well as applied courses such as Visual Communication Design, Web Design and courses that are innovative and suitable for the needs of the sector.
Our graduates will be able to find jobs as e-commerce experts, digital marketing experts, social media managers, corporate communication experts and content managers in the private sector and public institutions, as well as having the equipment to establish their own e-commerce companies.
