Founded in 2009, the Department of Automotive Engineering at Atılım University offers an education and learning environment at international standards with its English-medium instruction, modern curriculum, and continuously enhanced laboratory facilities. In addition to undergraduate education, the department also provides opportunities to pursue Master’s and Ph.D. degrees in automotive engineering within the interdisciplinary Mechanical Engineering graduate programs.

Our department was recognized as the best automotive engineering department in Türkiye in 2020, thanks to its strong laboratory infrastructure and research activities in energy efficiency, engine performance, active and passive automotive safety, and vehicle dynamics.

Our graduates are employed by leading companies operating in Türkiye, including Isuzu, Ford Otosan, Hattat Traktör, Honda, Hyundai, Karsan, Man, Mercedes-Benz, Otokar, Renault, Temsa, Tofaş, Toyota, TürkTraktör, and Togg. In addition, they have career opportunities in major institutions such as TÜBİTAK, TAI, ASELSAN, FNSS, the Ministry of National Defense, TCDD, and various supplier industries.

In recent years, the rapid advancement of electric, hybrid, and autonomous vehicle technologies – odriven by the transformation of the automotive sector – has significantly increased the importance of automotive engineering and made the profession even more exciting. In our department, students gain expertise not only in internal combustion engine technologies but also in these emerging fields.

With a strong emphasis on hands-on education, student projects play a central role in our program. Between 2011 and 2018, our students participated in the Formula Student competitions organized by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) and achieved third place in the world in 2016. Within the curriculum updated in 2020, capstone projects focused on modern automotive technologies are conducted, with particular emphasis on electric and hybrid vehicles, computational analysis and simulation courses, and laboratory applications.

Following the recent achievements in the TÜBİTAK TEKNOFEST Electric Vehicle Competitions, our students are currently continuing their preparations for the electric autonomous vehicle competitions to be held in 2026.
