Assoc. Prof. Dr. Emel AKIN

Thank you for your interest in our Graduate Programs conducted under the Department of Architecture at Atılım University.
Our Ph.D. Program in Architecture, launched in 2012, is the first architecture doctoral program established among foundation universities in Ankara. In addition to master's degree graduates, undergraduate degree holders are also accepted into our doctoral program within the scope of the integrated Ph.D. track. Our program is open to the discipline of architecture as well as other disciplines deemed appropriate by the Academic Board of the Department (such as urban design, city and regional planning, industrial design, landscape design, interior architecture, art history, etc.). The medium of instruction is Turkish. For admission criteria (GPA, ALES, and language scores), you can visit the website of the Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences.
Our Master's Program, launched in 2018, is open to the discipline of architecture and other disciplines deemed appropriate by the Academic Board of the Department (such as urban design, city and regional planning, industrial design, landscape design, interior architecture, art history, etc.). Our graduate education offers a dynamic ecosystem for researchers who wish to deepen their professional foundations acquired at the undergraduate level, specialize in their fields, and open new doors for an academic career. The medium of instruction is 30% English. For admission criteria (GPA, ALES, and language scores), you can visit the website of the Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences.
Our graduate programs focus on three main areas:
  1. Digital, technological, and innovative research/studies including game design, big data, video mapping, kinetic architecture, mapping, space architecture, etc.
  2. Housing and urban research/studies based on urban morphology, social structure, and political economy.
  3. Sustainability, energy, and acoustics research/studies.
The research and theses produced in our program are carried out through a strong mentorship process aimed at converting these studies into publications in national/international indexed journals and securing support from TÜBİTAK research funds. Conducted by our qualified faculty in a dynamic academic environment, the main objective of our graduate programs is to contribute to the upbringing of future researchers through interdisciplinary studies, original research focusing on the present and the future, and scientific knowledge sharing. Furthermore, we aim to provide theoretical, conceptual, and empirical contributions to the academic literature and to enhance our visibility in both national and international arenas.
