It is everyone’s responsibility to ensure safe campus environment along with security personnel.
The Coordination Office of Security aims to offer you safety 24/7 within the campus.
You too may aid us in several small ways in this regard. We have an informative booklet to facilitate and make safe your life at the campus and living environment.
The booklet is a guide you may consult in case of emergencies you may face at the campus and living environment. Thus, we suggest you read all the sections carefully and refer it when necessary.

SAFE CAMPUS
The members of the Coordination Office of Security of Atılım University, operating in accordance with the stipulations of Private Security Law No. 5188, are on duty 24/7 to provide a safe campus environment for your security and protection throughout your stay at the University. Please make sure that you follow the regulations set out below, to help us keep you safe inside the University campus. In addition, please heed security officers’ instructions and warnings at all times.
Entering the Campus:
Everyone entering our campus area must go through the ID and vehicle sticker checkpoints located at the entrance gates and security booths on campus. They are required to show their ID cards when asked.
Students must remind their visitors to record their name at the main entrance and get a visitor card in order to be eligible to enter the campus area. Visited students are responsible for their visitors.
• If you are using our shuttles, you are required to present your ID cards to our drivers as you board.
• No cars or walk-ins are allowed past 00:00.
- When praying inside the campus, please use the Praying Rooms at Floor 4, Block A at the School of Engineering, and at Kadriye Zaim Library.
- • Our academic and administrative staff, our students, and any unauthorized personnel who possess weapons within the framework of the Firearms Law No. 6136 are required to leave their weapons and ammunition in the weapon safe located at the Main Entrance, and sign the Weapon Safe Ledger before entering the campus.
Entering the Campus by Car:
The persons entering the university by car are subjected to ID and vehicle identification sticker checks at several checkpoints around the campus. Our students are allowed to enter in the campus provided that their cars are equipped with a vehicle identification sticker and they have no passengers. However, in cases where passengers are present, they are required to go through an ID check. Also, please note that vehicles without vehicle identification stickers, or those banned from the campus, will not be allowed into the campus. If this is the case, you may park your vehicle at the available spots near the main entrance.
Within the scope of the general security measures; vehicles may be inspected at main entrances and exits, as required by the university administration.
Proper Campus Driving Behavior:
You should refrain from listening to music at a high volume while in your car, and driving in a careless or disrespectful manner on campus roads. Loud music, engine noises and screeching tires may disturb students who are studying or resting.
Physical violence, verbal abuse, threats, insults, and assault attempts are among the cases that require disciplinary investigation.
All fliers and other documents to be put on display on campus bulletin boards and department buildings should be initially approved by the Management Office of Culture and Social Affairs.
Tips on Recognizing and Dealing with Suspicious People and Vehicles:
Your contribution is vital in keeping the campus safe.
Please take the following precautions when you recognize and are dealing with such people or situations:
If you have a hitchhiker in your car picked up on your way to the University campus, please make a short stop at the entrance for a security check and tell the security officers about having a hitchhiker.
Please do not pick up anyone who intend to get in the campus to commit a theft etc. by taking advantage of your vehicle.
The people who look out of place at Atılım University with their clothes, behaviors or attitudes, and those who are looking around furtively are defined as suspects. Suspects tend to leave a scene after being seen by security officers. Please notify the security in person, or call our security hotline at 0530 781 11 41 / 0312 586 89 99 as soon as you encounter such cases, or others that you regard suspicious.
SAFE CAMPUS PRACTICES:
Patrols:
The Atılım University security officers provide 24/7 safety through regular rounds around the buildings, facilities and the green areas located in vicinity of campus. They patrol the campus and respond to alarm calls on foot, or on bikes.
Lost and Found:
Cell phones, electronic appliances, keys, valets and clothes are among the most commonly lost and found items within the University campus.
In the case of a lost item, please contact the security officers of the building where your items were lost as soon as possible. If the security officers are unable to return your items, please refer to the Coordination Office of Security at Room Z-05 on the Ground Floor of our Presidency building. (Phone: 586 87 56)
Lost and found items are kept for 2 years before donation to charity as per Atılım University Regulations on Lost and Found Items.
BASIC SAFETY RULES:
Atılım University is under surveillance with a registered camera system, and camera recordings may be viewed every day between 15.00-16.00 after a relevant petition is submitted to, and approved by the Presidency. CCTV recordings are kept retroactively for 7 days.
Personal Safety:
You are safe on the campus. While walking on campus, do not hesitate to make eye contact with people around you. Report anyone suspicious to the security office (0530 781 11 41 / 0312 586 89 99).
Cases Requiring Disciplinary Investigation:
• Driving under the influence,
• Driving without a license,
• Reckless driving, speeding, racing
• Ignoring the warnings by security officials, insulting academic/ administrative staff members or students warning them, or committing, or attempting to commit physical violence against them,
• Harassing pedestrians or drivers while driving,
• Giving their Vehicle Identification Sticker to others or using other people’s stickers,
• Attempting to enter in the campus by car although they are not allowed, and proving troublesome for security personnel,
• Carrying firearms, blank cartridges, bullets etc. in vehicles, and bringing them into the campus.
• Keeping knives, daggers, switchblades, bayonets, etc. in vehicles and bringing them into the campus.
• Carrying drugs and alcoholic beverages in vehicles and bringing them into the campus.
Safety Rules in terms of Wild and Stray Animals:
Do not bring pets into the campus, as doing so may harm your pet.
Avoid interacting with stray animals, as they may not have been vaccinated against certain illnesses, such as rabies. In the case that you contact with a stray animal and get a scratch mark or a bite, immediately go to the Health Care Center as a precaution against rabies.
Smoking Ban on Campus:
Please do not smoke in non-smoking areas located on campus. Doing so is a case that calls for disciplinary investigation; subject to an official fine.
Safety in Vehicles:
Keep your doors locked when driving in the city center. Keep your windows as high as possible. Remember to lock your doors when you leave your vehicle. Please do not leave your keys on your vehicle. If you detect anything suspicious while driving, please call the police at 112 to report accordingly.
Actions to Take Under Threat:
Be careful with the threats from people who introduce themselves as police officers or prosecutors over the phone. Please disregard their requests and immediately report them to the police (112).
Please call 0530 781 11 41/ 0312 586 89 99 in case of other threats, adverse statements, and acts in the campus.
Fire:
Do not panic. First of all, secure yourself and report the situation to 0530 781 11 41/ 0312 586 89 99 to learn about what to do. If the fire is very small and you know how to use a fire extinguisher, look for one nearby and try to put out the fire.
However, if the fire has grown, please leave the area, and aid the officials that arrive.
Traffic at Atılım:
Atılım University places a great deal of emphasis on promoting respectful driving on campus. Always remember that on campus roadways, pedestrians are given priority over vehicles. All vehicles are required to stop and wait for pedestrians to cross the street.
Vehicle Identification Stickers:
As per a Traffic Board resolution, and in order to regulate the traffic and minimize the occurrence of car accidents within the campus, as well as to avoid any parking problems, the number of vehicles to be allowed into the campus is kept to match the number of available parking spaces.
Vehicle Identification Stickers may be requested via the ATACS system.
The prices for vehicle identification stamps are determined at the start of each academic year by the Traffic Board, and announced on the Atılım University official web site.
Safe Traffic:
The traffic at the campus is regulated as per Atılım University Regulations on Traffic.
Below given rules must be followed in order to drive in the campus:
Always remember that on campus roadways, pedestrians are given priority over vehicles. Follow the security officers’ instructions and obey all traffic signals, signs and markings.
The general speed limit for campus roads is 20-30km/h.
It is forbidden to honk horns, drive in convoys, or drive disrespectfully on campus. All motorcyclists are required to wear protective helmets.
In case of accidents:
Please stop your car properly and take all necessary safety precautions. Place reflectors behind and in front of your vehicle. Report accidents to the Security Office

PREVENTIVE MEASURES AGAINST THEFT:
Life on our University campus is very safe and secure; however, there are plenty of areas open to use by everyone, which makes it necessary for each individual to take some preventive measures to reduce opportunities for theft. Therefore, it would be wise to keep your personal belongings safe yourself. We recommend our students to stay vigilant in the following aspects:
At the Gym:
• Keep your locker locked at all times.
• Do not bring your valuables to the gym area.
• Please report any suspicious individuals or groups to us at 0530 781 11 41/ 0312 586 89 99.
At Schools, Classrooms, or the Library:
• Do not leave your valuables, bags, or phones behind you on desks or tables.
• If necessary, leave your personal belongings or valuable items with your friends or to security officers.
• Please inform suspicious, or unfamiliar individuals to the Security office.
At Home:
• If you are residing on the first or second floor of a building, be sure to have sturdy iron security bars installed at your doors and windows.
• Always remember to change the locks of your newly-rented house.
• When tagging your door, please use the initials of your first name, and your last name in full.
• Do not forget that thefts may prefer the houses where the mailbox is full.
• Leave a lamp, your TV or your radio on even if you leave your house for a short time.
FIRE SAFETY GUIDELINES:
At Dormitories:
Preventive Measures:
• Do not keep electrical heaters or flammable materials in your room.
• Make sure to unplug everything before leaving the room or going to sleep.
• Do not keep any electrical devices that are banned at your dormitory.
• Do not leave candles burning when leaving the room or before going to sleep.
• Please call the security hotline immediately if you smell smoke or see a fire.
• Please stay informed regarding the locations of all emergency exits in your building.
• Please stay informed regarding the location of the designated meeting points outside your building.
• Please learn how to use a fire extinguisher.
Actions to Take in the Event of Fire:
• Do not panic. Stay calm.
• Shout “Fire!”, and hit the fire alarm, as soon as you see a fire. Inform the security and the dorm manager on duty so that the rooms may be evacuated.
• If it is a very small fire and you know how to use a fire extinguisher, try to put it out, with great care.
If it is a big fire, immediately leave the area and go to your building’s designated meeting place outside.
• Do not leave the meeting place until the security authorities have declared it is safe to return to the dormitory rooms.
At Home:
Preventive Measures:
• If possible, have a smoke detector installed.
• Learn the location of your emergency exits and meeting place.
• If you smoke, make sure to completely extinguish your cigarette before you throw it away or go to sleep.
• Do not leave food cooking on the stove unattended.
• Keep heaters away from household items and fabrics.
• Use caution when operating electrical appliances.
• Learn where your main electrical switch and your natural gas switch are located at your house.
Actions to Take in the Event of Fire:
• Do not panic. Keep calm and call the fire department at 112.
• Prioritize the evacuation of children, the elderly and people with disabilities to a safe area.
• Ask your neighbors for assistance.
• Do not open the windows.
• Turn off the gas and electricity to your house.
• Use fire extinguishers or fire hoses, if available.
• If the fire is too big to extinguish, leave the building immediately.
• If you get burned, use cool running water as a first-aid measure and go to the nearest health care center as soon as possible.
• Provide the fire brigade with correct, short and clear answers to their questions.
WHAT TO DO IN AN EARTHQUAKE:
We all should know what to do before, during and after an earthquake to protect ourselves from getting injured and minimize damage. Please share the following information with your friends and family members for your own and others’ safety.
What do I do in case of an earthquake?
1. Do not panic.
2. If you are inside;
- Assume the fetal position next to your bed.
- Protect your head with something.
- Do not go downstairs or lower floors.
3. If you are outdoors, move to an open area and stay away from buildings, trees, and power lines.
4. If possible, do not drive. If you have to drive, stay away from bridges and underground passages, and stay in the car until the tremors stops.
What do to right after an earthquake?
1. If possible, check yourself and others for injuries, and provide first aid as needed.
2. Check your surroundings for safety. Turn off the gas, the water, and all electronics.
3. Turn on your radio, or TV. Follow the instructions of the officials closely.
4. Use your phone only in emergency situations.

5. Stay calm and state yourself clearly.
6. Introduce yourself.
7. State the condition of the persons injured or sick, without any personal comments.
8. Describe your location clearly.
9. Do not hang up the phone. Let the other side end the call. Do not keep your phone busy considering that officers may call you again until the health care team arrives.
10. Our health care team will be there as soon as possible.
