Wildlife at Atılım
Zebra Swallowtail
Atılım University Coordination Office of Landscaping executes landscaping projects that add color and value to our university with structural landscapes, and master plan revisions.
In recent years, we have planted lavender throughout the campus, adding aesthetic value and attracting various creatures.
The Zebra Swallowtail, a rare butterfly species in our country, previously photographed in Sivas and Adıyaman, was photographed this year on the lavender fields in the backyard of the administrative building of the University.
Our Photography Club and anyone interested are invited to visit the backyard of the administrative building for an opportunity to take similar, breathtaking photos.
Koi Carp
Found in the Atılım Pond, the koi fish belongs to the Cyprinidae family, kept as an ornamental fish for its aesthetic appearance. Originating from Japan and China, the koi is also known as the “colored carp”.
In Japanese culture, the koi is considered a symbol of prosperity, success, love, longevity, and good fortune. A gold koi represents wealth, a black one represents career success, and a white one represents peace. In Chinese mythology, the koi symbolizes ascension, perseverance, and determination.
Red-Eared Slider
The Red-Eared Slider (Trachemys scripta elegans) is a freshwater turtle subspecies of the Emydidae family.
It is also known as the “Red-Eyed Slider” or the “Singapore Slider”. It originates from the Americas. It has an amphibious lifestyle (able to live both in water and on land). It is known for its striking colors and calm disposition. Its adaptability allows the turtle to survive in a variety of climates and environments.
Chukar Partridge
The chukar partridge (Alectoris chukar) is a bird species of the pheasant family, found naturally in many regions of Türkiye. It is named “kınalı” or “red-stained” in Turkish, after the reddish coloration on its feet. The medium-sized bird is easily recognized by its gray-brown plumage and black-and-white stripes on its sides. It is typically seen in Central Anatolia, Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia, and the mountainous regions of the Mediterranean. It lives on rocky and arid slopes and steppes. It feeds on seeds, plants, and small insects. It breeds in the spring and lays 10 to 15 eggs at once. The chukar partridge is a local and unique bird species, spotted within the Atılım University campus.
Red Fox
The red fox (Vulpes vulpes), among our visitors, is the world's most common fox species and one of the most common wild animals in Türkiye. It is a medium-sized, slender mammal. Its fur is typically reddish-brown, and its tail is long and white-tipped. It lives in forests, on open fields, steppes, and even in rural settlements. It is nocturnal and feeds on rodents, birds, fruit, and insects. It is an intelligent and adaptable animal, able to survive in a wide variety of environments.
It may be spotted in the wild in any region of Türkiye.
