Atılım University recognizes the importance of water and is committed to ensuring that water use on its campus contributes to good water and environmental management practices.  The policy of the University outlines how the University will meet these commitments by ensuring appropriate controls and audits are in place to reduce consumption and the risk of water pollution. The policy will reduce consumption, improve our capacity to detect water loss, and contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals by increasing water efficiency at the University.

Policy Implementation

Atılım University implements a policy of promoting ethical responsibility in reducing water use through efficient practices. By reducing water use, the university intends to reduce the consumption of a resource that is already significantly endangered. Our efforts to achieve the goals as per our policy statement shall be supported through practices implemented by Atılım University Coordination Office of Auxiliary Services.

Policy Scope

The policy scope is to set targets the University shall meet to reduce water use, thereby limiting the consumption of a critically endangered resource. The policy aims to reduce water consumption at the University and constitutes a tool to raise awareness of the environmental responsibility of the University regarding water conservation, while reducing our environmental impact. All University members, including staff, students, researchers, contract operators, and groups, are responsible for this policy.

Policy Statement

Atılım University strives to achieve efficient water consumption through the implementation of the policy. The policy aims to contribute to the sustainable use of water at the University. The University shall seize opportunities to reduce our demand from artificial sources while minimizing potential damage to University assets and the environment.  Effective water treatment contributes to significant greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to climate change. In this regard, Atılım University stands ready to support Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6, “Clean Water and Sanitation”, to ensure the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all through effective monitoring of water consumption on our campus and the implementation of improvement initiatives.

Policy Objectives

Atılım University shall achieve SDG 6 by reducing water consumption and increasing water reuse on the MOG Campus through the following key policy objectives:

  • Monitoring and measuring water consumption, identifying significant and abnormal water use on campus, and implementing opportunities to increase water efficiency
  • Ensuring that water conservation, reuse, and efficiency are incorporated into design considerations for future renovations and improvements on campus
  • Exploring and developing opportunities for rainwater and graywater harvesting based on a whole-life cost approach
  • Implementing a whole-life cost approach when calculating the value of building and construction features in terms of water conservation associated with operating facilities
  • Engaging with our students and staff to encourage them to take action to reduce water consumption and promote water-conserving behaviors.
  • Incorporating water efficiency measures into all new and renovated facilities through best practices in water efficiency design.
  • Maintaining all facilities and equipment, monitoring and managing systems and water infrastructure to maximize efficiency.
  • Designing and constructing new facilities, and maintaining existing components and the fixed water infrastructure.
  • Undertaking efforts to identify, develop, and implement awareness programs to promote water-saving measures among university members.
  • Approval and implementation of all legal and regulatory requirements related to water use, consumption, and efficiency.
  • Identification of key water usage areas within the University to set appropriate targets and action plans to reduce water use and waste.
