An Innovation from our University

Solar Tablet Case has been patented

Özalp Tozan, Faculty member of the Computer Engineering Department in Atilim University has come up with the idea to build a laboratory and to manufacture their own tablet PCs together with his students in this laboratory. In 2012 he succeeded in manufacturing the first tablet pc named mPad 01. Continuing his studies, Tozan manufactured 3 different tablets respectively in 2013 (mPad 02) and in 2014 (mPad 03) with the opportunities provided by the University. In line with all his studies he also carried out researches to prolong the battery life of the present tablets. As a result of his studies he decided to build a tablet case which charges the device using Solar power, and began his studies in the same laboratory. Tozan completed his first prototype and tried it several times during a train journey of 400 km, tested it in clear and cloudy weather conditions and received good results. Following this, the process to protect the invention was initiated in 2013 and as from 18.06.2015 the invention is patented.  The patent application the details of which are given below is the first example of its kind in our University. “Tablet Case fed with Solar Power” which is the first invention patented on behalf of Atilim University is also significant in that it has been turned into a product. Tozan has also carried out researches in two different fields and the patent process for these researches is performed by our University’s Research, Development, Consultancy and Technology Transfer Office.

Title of Invention

Tablet Case fed with Solar Power

Summary of the Invention

Technology is rapidly evolving in our century thus our dependency on electronic devices is also increasing day by day. Tablet PCs and other smart devices are on the top of the list of these electronic devices. The history of tablet PCs which began in 1888 with Telautograph is now at a different level. Tablet PCs which are more compact, more practical and more affordable are preferred by more and more people and also are used intensely during the day. As a result of this intense use, their batteries run down due to their limited battery capacity and thus they become unfunctional until their next battery charge. In order to provide a solution to this problem, “Tablet Case fed with Solar Power” has been manufactured and patented. Within the scope of the invention solar panels have been used on the tablet case, the energy received from the Sun is turned into electric energy and is stored in the battery located on the case so that the tablet is charged through solar power. The main aim of the invention is to protect features of tablet PCs (being compact and mobile) which are achieved through years of study.
