World Antibiotic Awareness Week 2019 (18-24 November)
18.11.2019

Antimicrobial drug resistance (AMR) is a growing problem worldwide. Antibiotic resistance is highest in Turkey among OECD countries. At least one in three-four medical prescriptions in Turkey includes antibiotics.  If antibiotic resistance continues to grow, common infections will no longer be treatable. The World Health Organization has included AMR as one of the top ten threats to global health in 2019. We need to act immediately to stop the rise of new pandemic. Antibiotics should only be used when prescribed by your doctor. Handwashing is the first line of defence against the spread of bacteria.  We need to be vaccinated against the diseases. We need to develop One Health approaches to antimicrobial resistance focusing  on rational use of antibiotics in humans and limitation of antibiotic use in food animals, plant production.
