Asst. Prof. Zeynep Begum Kalyoncu, representing The Turkish Dietetic Association, participated in Turkey Sabri Ulker Foundation's Nutrition & Health Communication program, and she addressed the issue of ''Eating Disorders'' with the journalists and bloggers. Asst. Prof. Zeynep Begüm Kalyoncu stated that eating disorders are the most lethal psychiatric illness after substance addiction and that eating disorders can be seen at any age, gender and socioeconomic level, contrary to the belief that it is mostly seen in the wealthy women. Asst. Prof. Zeynep Begüm Kalyoncu also stated that the diagnostic criterias for an eating disorder are presented in detail for the Anorexia Nervosa, Blumia Nervosa and Eating Syndrome (Binge Eating) according to the American Psychiatric Association's DSM-5 guidelines. She said that even if eating disorders are mostly seen in women, the prevalence of eating disorders in men and especially in sexual minorities should not be missed by health professionals.
