As an attendee of Erasmus Instructor Mobility Program I was invited to offer English courses in Escuela de Arte Diez (Arte Diez University) Madrid, Spain for a week.

The program lasted between 3rd -7th of March, 2014 and I gained priceless experiences through this exchange. The first impression I received has been that there are common fears and joys shared by all youngsters regardless of their nationality or academic background. The students were, very much like our own students in Atılım University, timid and reluctant to engage in a conversation in their non-native language. Nonetheless it did not last much long for them to get rid of their worries and try to express themselves in the best way they could. I also realized that they were much motivated to talk in issues that were relevant to their own lives; their goals, inspirations, family relations and relevant topics.

The instructors were even more cooperative and eager to practice English and seek opportunities to widen their teaching experiences here in Atılım University. Through this experience it became feasible for me to obtain an opportunity to exchange global views concerning academic and humanistic practices applied in English teaching.

Between 24th and 28th of February, our instructors Renan Güney and Mustafa Güneş visited Transylvania University of Romani, Brasov within the Erasmus Staff Mobility Program. With the collaboration of the Modern Languages Unit at Transylvania University they observed English classes and studies as well as getting knowledge about the overall practices of language teaching at the University.

It was a valuable and resourceful visit for both instructors in terms of widening the horizons of our department at Atılım with the help of their reflections.
