ATUGAM Shares Workshop Results on Migration in Hatay

Atılım University Migration Studies Application and Research Center organized a workshop on the report published as the output of the research conducted in Hatay in the summer of 2022, titled “Hatay and the Social Harmonization Process:  Processes, and Suggestions for the Future”, on January 17, 2023, at Wax Wing Hotel.

The research in Hatay relied on the mixed research methodology and the cross-sectional survey method; and saw the initial meetings with the locals, official authorities, and NGO representatives in July and August of 2022.

The research compared the participants in terms of ages, professions, income and education levels. The language barrier topped the list of challenges at 52% among the categories included, within the scope of the findings.

In addition to Ahmet Yıldırım, Head of the Provincial Immigration Administration Harmonization and Communication Study Group of the Governorship of Hatay among its speakers, the workshop brought together representatives of the Department of Health and Social Services of Hatay, officials of NGOs such as UNHCR, ASAM-SGDD, MSYD-ASRA, Turkish Red Crescent, GOAL, DRC, Support to Life, IOM, all conducting studies on migration and immigrants.

Details on the research were presented to the participants by members of the research team, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Doğa Aydoğan, Director of ATUGAM, School of Law; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ceyhan Çiğdemoğlu, Asst. Prof. Dr. Asuman Özgür Keysan, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ilgar Seyidov, School of Business.
