What is co-operative education (CO-OP)?

CO-OP is an education model that combines university education and business life, thus aiming to raise individuals who have work experience as well as academic knowledge. Students participating in CO-OP continue their education by working in a contracted company/institution in the second internship and the following fall semester (internship + 7th semester). During this period, students do not come to the university.

What are the registered courses in CO-OP and how are they graded?

Students participating in CO-OP register for Summer Practice II, Capstone Project I, Capstone Project II, 2 area elective courses, and 1 non-area elective course (6 courses in total). Course grades are based on student reports during co-education, end-of-semester presentations, and company evaluations. The department assigns a faculty member to monitor students during this process.

Which companies have agreements for cooperative education?

The list of companies/institutions that our department has contracted with can be accessed via this link.

What are the application requirements for CO-OP?

CO-OP is not compulsory; it is an optional program. You can refer to the Cooperative Education Directive for application and acceptance requirements.

When and where to apply for CO-OP?

Cooperative education applications are made to the Career Planning and Cooperative Education Directorate at the beginning of the spring semester each year. Following the announcements on the subject is crucial.

How to match students and companies?

The CVs of the students who apply are shared with the companies that will receive co-educational students. Companies conduct interviews with the students they designate. After these interviews, mutual preferences determine which companies the students will work with.

Course planning suggestions for students considering joining COOP:

Students who plan to join in COOP must complete the AE399 courses before CO-OP to be able to participate in the co-education and take the AE491 and AE499 courses.

It is recommended to take the 7th semester course, AE435 (Vehicle Dynamics), before the cooperative education period.

It is recommended to take the 7th semester course, TURK101, before the cooperative education period.

It is recommended that students avoid taking two area elective courses and two non-area elective courses, both of which are 7th semester courses, while also leaving them for the cooperative education period.

The area elective course taken during the CO-OP period is not counted as a multidisciplinary area elective, and the non-area elective course is not counted as a non-area (entrepreneurship pool) elective course. It is recommended that these courses be taken before or after the CO-OP semester.
