| Course Objectives | The aim of MLY310 Income Distribution and Redistribution is to equip students with the ability to learn, understand, and analyze income, wealth, and regional economic inequalities, as well as poverty, at both conceptual and empirical levels. The course provides a theoretical framework ranging from classical theories of distribution (Ricardo, Marx) to the Kuznets hypothesis and contemporary debates led by authors such as Piketty and Stiglitz. Students are expected to analyze inequality using measurement tools such as the Lorenz curve and the Gini coefficient. The course also aims to develop students' ability to critically evaluate the redistributive effects of fiscal policy instruments, including taxes, transfers, and public social spending, with particular emphasis on the case of Turkey. |
