Course Objectives To teach patriotism to students; to make them aware of significance of Ataturk’s principles and raise them as loyal subjects to these principles; to give them insight into the processes of modern democratic administrative modes by improving their understanding of democracy. To enable the students to acquire the appropriate attitude, behaviour and skills to be able to find solutions to contemporary problems against the backdrop of Ataturk’s principles.
Course Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • Students will have sufficient knowledge of the History of Turkish Republic and Modern Turkey with a thorough understanding of the Principles of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. The students will have a clear understanding of the below given issues in the process from the Tanzimat Period when the modernisation of the Ottoman State started till the declaration of Turkish Republic: -the political phenomena of the period in a cause and effect chain, -Important economic decisions and their results, -the line of evolution of the history of Turkish democracy, -the substantial issues in Turkish Constitution, -the causes and effects of Balkan War and World War I, -how and in what conditions the National Liberation War was won, -the implications and the content of the Lozenge Treaty.
Course Content French Revolution; structure and geopolitic positioning of Ottoman Empire, reasons of its decline; Westernization movements, First and Second Constitutional Monarchy declarations; Libya and Balkan wars; First World War; period before the War of Independence, congresses, National Pact, establishment of Turkish Grand National Assembly.
