Co-operative Educaiton
What is co-operative education (COOP)?
COOP is an education model that combines university education and business life, thus aiming to raise individuals who have work experience as well as academic knowledge. Students participating in COOP continue their education by working in a contracted company/institution in the second internship and the following fall semester (internship + 7th semester). During this period, students do not come to the university.
Which courses are registered in COOP and how are they graded?
Students participating in COOP register for an internship, three compulsory courses, and three elective courses (a total of seven courses). Course grades are calculated based on the reports submitted by the students during the cooperative education period, the presentations they deliver at the end of the term, and the evaluations conducted by the company. Throughout this process, the students are supervised by a faculty member assigned by the department.
Which companies have cooperative education agreements?
The list of companies/institutions that our department has contracted with can be accessed via this link.
What are the application requirements for COOP?
COOP is not compulsory, it is an optional program. You can refer to the Cooperative Education Directive for application and acceptance requirements.
When and where to apply for COOP?
Cooperative education applications are made to the Career Planning and Cooperative Education Directorate at the beginning of the spring semester each year. It is important to follow the announcements to be made on the subject.
How to match students and companies?
The CVs of the students who apply are shared with the companies that will receive co-educational students. Companies conduct interviews with the students they designate. At the end of these interviews, the companies that the students will work with are determined by mutual preferences.
Course planning suggestions for students considering joining COOP:
It is recommended that students take the 7th semester course TURK401 before the cooperative education period.
It is also recommended that they do not take the three departmental elective courses and the three non-departmental elective courses scheduled for the 7th semester beforehand, but rather leave them for the cooperative education period.
