The First SAYP Project among Foundation Universities to be launched

After the protocol signed by Atilim University and the Undersecretariat for Defense Industries, the master’s thesis “A new Process Design and Application for Bending High-Strength Steel Sheets Gradually” which has been prepared with the cooperation of our University and FNSS Savunma Sistemleri A.Ş. has been approved by the Undersecretariat for Defense Industries. This project is the first and only project carried out with the cooperation of a foundation university within the scope of Researcher Training Program for the Defense Industry (SAYP).

Assistant Professor Besim Baranoglu and Assistant Professor Eren Billur, who are instructors at the Departments of and Manufacturing Engineering and Automotive Engineering of our University respectively, contribute to the project as thesis advisors. Mechanical Engineer Baris Cetin, who is serving as Lead Materials and Special Processes Engineer in R&D Analysis, Test and R&D Management department of FNSS Savunma Sistemleri A.Ş, will conduct the thesis study as a graduate student at the Department of Manufacturing Engineering of our university within the scope of SAYP project. Dr. Kivilcim Ersoy, who is also working in the same department of FNSS Savunma Sistemleri A.Ş., will contribute to the project as an industry representative thesis advisor.

The primary purpose of the project is to launch a new manufacturing method for bending process of high-strength steel sheets used in armored vehicle production.

The project will start on 01 September 2016 and last 18 months.
