Cooperative Education
What is co-operative education (COOP)?
COOP is an education model that combines university education and business life, thus aiming to raise individuals who have work experience as well as academic knowledge. Students participating in COOP continue their education by working in a contracted company/institution in the second internship and the following fall semester (internship + 7th semester). During this period, students do not come to the university.
What are the registered courses in COOP and how are they graded?
Students participating in the Cooperative Education program take the courses ECON491 and ECON493 from the 6 ECTS field elective course pool, and two courses, ECON495 and ECON497, from the 5 ECTS field elective course pool. They also take the compulsory course ECON401-33, which is assigned to Cooperative Education students under section number 33. In addition, they take ECON499 Internship as an extra course. In total, six courses are taken within the Cooperative Education program.
Which companies have cooperative education agreements?
The list of companies/institutions that our department has contracted with can be accessed via this link.
What are the application requirements for COOP?
COOP is not compulsory, it is an optional program. You can refer to the Cooperative Education Directive for application and acceptance requirements.
When and where to apply for COOP?
Cooperative education applications are made to the Career Planning and Cooperative Education Directorate at the beginning of the spring semester each year. It is important to follow the announcements to be made on the subject.
How to match students and companies?
The CVs of the students who apply are shared with the companies that will receive co-educational students. Companies conduct interviews with the students they designate. At the end of these interviews, the companies that the students will work with are determined by mutual preferences.
Course planning suggestions for students considering joining COOP:
Students who plan to participate in the Cooperative Education program must pay attention to the following regulations in order to be eligible for the program and to take the relevant semester courses:
-
It is recommended that the 7th semester course TURK 401 be completed prior to the Cooperative Education semester (this can be in the 6th semester).
-
The General Elective (GE) course listed in the 7th semester is recommended to be taken in either the 6th or 8th semester within the framework of the Cooperative Education plan.
-
In the 7th semester, there are four field elective pool courses, only one of which is a 5 ECTS field elective course. However, in the Cooperative Education program, students are required to take two 5 ECTS field elective courses. Therefore, the other 5 ECTS field elective course is expected to be chosen from the 5th or 8th semester courses.
What are the courses that students participating in COOP will register?
- ECON491 CO-OP Practice I (Area Elective)

- ECON495 CO-OP Practice III (Area Elective)
- ECON497 CO-OP Practice VI (Area Elective)
