Program Education Model

The undergraduate program in Nursing at the Department of Nursing, School of Health Sciences, Atılım University, is structured based on the classical education model, and implemented with a student-centered learning approach. Program development takes into account the Turkish Higher Education Qualifications Framework, the National Core Curriculum for Nursing, national and international nursing standards, program education objectives, program outcomes, and stakeholder feedback.

 

The program is a formal undergraduate program lasting four years (eight semesters), totaling 240 ECTS credits. The language of instruction is English, and the education process is conducted face-to-face. The program consists of theoretical courses, laboratory applications, simulation-based learning activities, clinical and field practice, research activities, and elective courses.

 

The educational program is structured in accordance with fundamental concepts of human beings, health/ illness, environment, and nursing. To develop students' cognitive, affective, and psychomotor learning domains, student-centered active learning methods such as lectures, case analyses, group work, simulations, project development, research activities, and clinical applications are utilized.

 

Students develop their professional skills at our basic skills laboratory and simulation center before their clinical practice, which takes place at various healthcare institutions within the scope of our affiliation with Medicana International Ankara Hospital and in line with collaborations with the Ankara Provincial Directorate of Health. Our students are supported by our faculty members and clinical mentor nurses throughout their clinical training process.

 

The program is based on the nursing process in the planning and implementation of nursing care; it aims to develop students' clinical decision-making, critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, teamwork, leadership, and evidence-based practice skills. Through courses on research methods, biostatistics, and evidence-based practices, students' competencies in accessing, evaluating, and applying scientific knowledge to care practices are supported.

The effectiveness of the program is regularly monitored through student, alumni, and external stakeholder feedback, course evaluation results, program outcome assessments, and quality assurance processes, and is continuously improved within the Plan - Do - Check - Act (PDCA) cycle.
