Laboratory for Determination of Antibacterial Properties of Materials

The Laboratory is used to research antibacterial features of polymer and polymer/composite materials and all kinds of biomaterials. Through in vitro bacteria culture studies conducted on living bacteria colonies, researchers examine the effects of physical and chemical features of materials to be used in antibacterial engineering on inhibition of bacteria colonies.

Polymer Composite Biomaterials Biocompatibility Research Laboratory

The Laboratory is used to research biocompability performance of polymer and polymer/composite materials and all kinds of biomaterials. Through in vitro cell culture studies conducted with living cell lines, researchers examine the effects of physical and chemical features of materials used for biomedical purposes on vitality, structure and reproduction performance of cells.

Casting, Alloying and Solidification Laboratory

This laboratory is equipped with devices for melting, solidification, thermal analysis and chemical analysis experiments. Additionally, it has all devices used for the determination of molding sand features. Induction oven reservoir has the capacity to melt 100kg steel equivalent. The chemical composition of iron-steel, aluminum, copper and magnesium alloys can be determined with the optical emission spectrometer available in the laboratory. The Laboratory hall is equipped with a ceiling ventilation system. It is used in alloying, casting, solidification and molding sand experiments as a part of the studies such as graduation projects, research and consultancy and laboratory experiments of department students.

Heat Treatment Laboratory

The Laboratory has 4 box ovens heating up to 300, 1100 and 1300°C, 2 tube ovens heating up to 600 and 1000°C and one atmosphere controlled oven heating up to 1200°C.

It is used for heat treatment for the studies such as graduation projects, research and consultancy and laboratory experiments of department students. Dangerous and harmful substances are not used and produced in the studies conducted in the Laboratory.

Corrosion and Surface Treatment Laboratory

Serving for undergraduate and graduate education, research studies and the industry, the laboratory examines corrosion behaviors of materials, conducts standard corrosion tests, produces various surface coating materials through electrochemical methods and carries out corrosion tests on them. It is equipped with a programmable power supply, a heat-controlled corrosion test cabin and a corrosion test device to examine corrosion behaviors of materials.

Mechanical Test Laboratory

The laboratory has devices for tensile, compression, bending experiments, hardness tests, impact toughness tests and sample preparation equipment. It is used to measure the mechanical features of materials in the studies such as graduation projects, research and consultancy and laboratory experiments of department students. Dangerous and harmful substances are not used and produced in the studies conducted in our laboratory.

Metallography Laboratory

The Laboratory has 5 optical inverted metallurgical microscopes, 1 metal microscope with camera attachment, disc cutter for metallographic sample preparation and bakalite devices. Micro-structures of materials are examined in the studies such as graduation projects, research and consultancy and laboratory experiments of department students.

The materials such as oil, solutions and acids are used in small amounts while cutting and polishing samples and these consumables are kept in different containers after being used.

Polymer-Composite Materials Research-Development Laboratory

The Laboratory is used to research polymer and polymer/composite materials and all kinds of biomaterials and carry out studies for research, development, production, surface modification and characterization of polymer and polymer/composite materials and biomaterials.

Ceramic Composite Materials Laboratory

The laboratory carries out research on the production, forming and characterization of ceramic-based materials by means of ceramic nanopowder synthesis, ceramic powder manufacturing by ball milling, forming with pressing, sintering, photocataliytic feature determination, and measurement of surface contact features. Accommodating 20 students, it is used as a training laboratory for the compulsory and elective ceramic courses in undergraduate curricula as well as dissertations and theses.

Material Selection, Design, Simulation and Calculation Laboratory

The Laboratory is used to research and determine materials to be used in engineering designs. Studies on material selection and solidification simulation software are conducted with high-capacity computers. However, such studies do not include material use and/or physical experiments.

Non-Destructive Testing Laboratory

The Laboratory has 1 ultrasonic examination device and 1 magnetization yoke device used for non-destructive determination of internal and surface defects of materials and necessary calibration equipment and accessories. Dangerous and harmful substances are not used and produced in the studies conducted in our laboratory.

Production Metallurgy Laboratory

Although the Laboratory is under construction for studies regarding production metallurgy, it has a laboratory oven used for high temperature processing (T<1100°C) and plans to procure a high temperature tube oven (T<1800°C) and other various equipment for pyrometallurgical studies.
