Course Objectives | This course deals with the political structure of Turkey in a historical development process. 19th century, which is accepted as the first stage of the birth of modern Turkey. The reform movements in the Ottoman period, the Western influence and the reactions to it constitute the first part of the course. Secondly, the political developments in the Young Turks, the Union and Progress and the early republican periods are discussed. Finally, the political developments since the transition to the multi-party system until the 1980 military coup are discussed. Thus, students will develop the ability to understand and analyze the actors, institutions, ideologies and fundamental issues that form the building blocks of modern Turkish politics in a historical development. |
