Course Objectives The understanding of the the formation of the Vienna Secession movement around 1900, in architecture and art; from the neo-classical approach to the new / free artistic transition in the context of social change the influences on the modernization
Course Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • -make identity inquiry in the context of contemporary architecture and art in the Europe of the 19th century. --understand the socio-political changes in Vienna and the reflection of architecture, city, design and art. - know the architects, designers, artists of the Vienna Secession movement and their works. - understand the Vienna Secession movement effects in Europe and its place in the new / free art Jugendstil / Art Nouveau. - Learn the connection between modernism and the Vienna Secession movement.
Course Content Emergence of the Viennese Secession movement that was founded in 1897 in Vienna, its philosophy and extensions in the world; Gustav Klimt, Joseph Maria Olbrich, Otto Wagener, Joseph Hoffmann and other architects and artists, their works; foundation of the Wiener Werkstaette/Viennese Ateliers and their reflections until today.
