Course Objectives To discuss the term of culture; to discuss the role of culture in the process of social change, how culture changes/transforms in everyday life; to discuss the role of symbols in postmodern culture; to read the space in various practices and in the functions of production/consumption from the point of culture. To question the housing-identity relationship on the basis of housing and culture; to examine the effect of cultural change in the formation of housing estates and the effect of housing on cultural change.
Course Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • Students question the information in the books and reflect it to the academic setting in discussions. Students gain the skill of carrying their knowledge to various platforms of the field; establishes the relationship between housing/design/everyday life/power and cultural structuring on the interdisciplinary scale. Students gain the skill of carrying their theoretical knowledge to their daily lives and to the urban/spatial practice. Students combine the subject of research with their theoretical knowledge and make an effectual presentation.
Course Content Investigation of housing?culture and identity relations through readings (books/essays) and research done through users of housings with different characteristics and user profiles (such as, squatter housing, gated communities, apartment buildings).
