Course Objectives This course examines the causes and consequences of nationalism in modern history, as well as the impact of ethnic identity on political movements, states, and international relations. The course will first address questions such as what nationalism is and why it emerged during a specific period in history from a theoretical perspective; it will then explore the phenomenon of nationalism through historical examples of nationalist movements.
Course Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • Students identify and compare the fundamental theories in the fields of nationalism and ethnicity.
  • Students analyze nationalist movements from a historical and comparative perspective.
Course Content The concepts of nation and nationalism; nationalist movements; the concept of race; the concept of ethnic origin.
