Course Objectives It examines Turkish political thought not merely as a practice carried out by the intellectual class or political actors, but as a product of all cultural and social structures and processes. In this context, the course examines the key themes shaping political thought in Turkey, including Kemalism, Islam and secularism, conservatism, nationalism, human and minority rights, and gender discussions.
Course Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • They will have sufficient knowledge to follow current debates on contemporary Turkish political thought.
  • It enhances one's understanding of Turkey's cultural and social structure.
Course Content The Ottoman Empire-Turkish Republic continuity; strong state; liberalism; Kemalism; nationalism; military; leftist thought; political Islam; conservatism.
