Course Objectives KAM 303 State and Social Theory examines the state and the state-society relationship, which is one of the most important theoretical study areas and concepts of the discipline of political science, historically. In this context, it considers the different conceptualizations of the state in modern political theory from absolutist, constitutional, ethical, class and pluralistic perspectives, and the works of important political thinkers such as Thomas Hobbes, John Locke, Karl Marx are discussed in this specific context.
Course Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • Understands the basic concepts of the discipline of political science.
  • Understands the basic theoretical approaches of the discipline of political science.
  • Acquires a general knowledge of the basic methodological approaches of the discipline of political science
  • Acquires general information about other fields of study (sociology, psychology, etc.) related to the discipline of political science.
  • Acquires the ability to act with tolerance and respect in the face of different value judgments and thought systems.
Course Content Modern state and its features; state-society relations; liberal-pluralist theory; elitist theory; Marxist theory.
