Course Objectives The aim of this course is to summarize the structure, organization and function of biological macromolecules at molecular level. To understand the metabolism and its importance in biological systems. To explain the details of carbohydrate, lipid and protein metabolisms including with TCA cycle and ETC To discuss the details of anabolic reactions in biological systems
Course Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • To refresh the general information about major types of biomolecules such as carbohydrates, lipids and proteins
  • To understand the importance of metabolism and to discuss the anabolic and catabolic processes.
  • To understand the carbohydrate metabolism: gycolysis. Detail analysis of enzymes and their regulation.
  • To discuss the reactions in TCA cycle and their regulations.
  • To discuss the electron transport chain and oxidatif phosphorylation in ATP generation.
  • To discuss the lipid metabolism, reaction steps, and control of enzymes in the process
  • To discuss protein metabolism reaction steps, and control of enzymes in the process
  • To understand the route of gluconeogenesis, the reaction steps and regulation of the enzymes.
Course Content The basic mechanism in metabolic reactions, regulations of metabolic reactions, importance of metabolic reactions in biological systems.
