Course Objectives The aim of this course is to learn the typical development of the hearing system from infancy to childhood, diseases / disorders that cause differences in the development of the hearing system, evaluation and diagnosis of the hearing system in the pediatric group and the basic principles of early intervention for hearing loss. In this way, it is aimed that the student will know the principles and differences of audiological approach to the child with hearing loss from the newborn period to late childhood.
Course Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • Knows the processes of auditory perception in infancy and childhood at a basic level.
  • Have knowledge about the risk factors of hearing loss in infancy and childhood and diseases that cause hearing loss.
  • Have knowledge about hearing screening programs applied in newborn and childhood.
  • Learns the principles of audiological evaluation with behavioral tests in newborns, infants and children.
  • Knows the differences of electroacoustic and electrophysiologic evaluation methods in newborns, infants and children and their role in diagnosis.
  • Knows the importance of early intervention in the pediatric group and learns to structure the intervention process.
Course Content Basic principles of the typical development of the hearing system, childhood diseases and disorders that cause differences in the development of the hearing system, evaluation, diagnosis and early intervention in the pediatric group.
