Sarcopenia Screening and Muscle Health Awareness Event for Geriatric Individuals
As part of the community outreach activities carried out by our Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, the "Sarcopenia Screening and Muscle Health Awareness Event for Geriatric Individuals" was held on April 13, 2026, at Bilge Hayatlar Elderly Care Center.
The event, lasting approximately 2.5 hours, brought together 18 elderly residents and 9 physiotherapy students. The program consisted of four main components: sarcopenia screening, an educational session, a practical exercise training, and fall prevention guidance.
During the screening phase, participants underwent the SARC-F questionnaire, the 5-Times Sit-to-Stand Test, and handgrip strength measurement, followed by individualized feedback. The educational session covered the definition of sarcopenia, the causes of age-related muscle loss, and the importance of physical activity, all presented in plain and accessible language. In the practical session, participants performed exercises that can easily be integrated into daily life, including sit-to-stand, heel raises, seated knee extensions, balance exercises, and controlled walking training.
The event was conducted under the supervision of Asst. Prof. Dr. Nagihan Acet and Asst. Prof. Dr. Süleyman Korkusuz, with the contributions of Research Assistant Gülcan Tanımlı.
