Associate/ Undergraduate Degree Programs

Atılım University Associate and Undergraduate Degree Education and Examination Regulations

ARTICLE 11 - (4) (Amended: RG-13/3/2020-31067) Registration of students failing to pay their tuition fee and renew their registration shall be suspended. In the suspension period students may not exercise student rights. The suspension period counts towards the period of study. If such students fail to renew their registrations for two or more semesters, they may do so by paying half of the tuition fees for the last two semesters with no renewals. In the case of such students failing to renew their registration for a single semester, these students are expected to pay half of their final semester, in order to renew their registration. Students failing to pay their tuition fees for four years consecutively shall be exmatriculated. The boards of the relevant school, graduate school, or vocational school decide accordingly in relation to such students, and the decision is sent to the Presidency for an approval by the Directorate of the Council of Higher Education. After the approval, exmatriculation procedures are finalized by the Directorate of Student Affairs, and announced to the exmatriculated student.”

ARTICLE 27 - (1) The normal term of study for 2-year associate degree programs is four semesters, while students must complete 8 semesters in 4-year undergraduate programs. Students meeting the conditions specified in Article 28 may graduate earlier. Students must complete 2-year associate degree programs within 4 years, (Amended statement: RG-13/3/2020-31067) 4-year undergraduate programs within 7 years, and 6-year undergraduate programs within 9 years, regardless of a valid excuse as per this Regulation and excluding the preparatory English school of one year, starting from the semester where their courses begin, and regardless of whether they are registered for each of the semesters.”

Graduate Degree Programs

English Preparatory School:

ARTICLE 8 - (1) The normal duration of study for the preparatory foreign language program is an academic year. Undergraduate and associate degree program students unable to succeed in the program after a year continue the preparatory program for another academic year. Graduate degree students unable to succeed in the program at the end of an academic year are dismissed from the University.”

Academic Deficiency Program:

ARTICLE 8 - (5) The academic/ art deficiency program lasts a maximum of one calendar year. Summer school shall not be included in this period and the students who fail at the end of the period shall be dismissed from the University. The period spent in this program does not count towards the graduate degree program or the doctorate degree/proficiency in art program specified under this Regulation.”

Thesis Master Degree Program: 

ARTICLE 24 / (5) The period of study for thesis graduate degree programs is four semesters, to be completed within at most six semesters, excluding the scientific preparation period, and starting from the semester where program courses are presented for the first time, regardless whether students register for each semester. Students failing to complete their preplanned credit hours and seminar hours successfully, or to meet the conditions/ criteria for success as stipulated by the University in this period; and those failing their thesis studies within maximum allowed periods of study or failing to attend their thesis defense shall be dismissed from the University.”

Non-Thesis Master Degree Programs:

ARTICLE 27 / (7) The period of study for thesis graduate degree programs is two semesters, to be completed within at most three semesters, excluding the scientific preparation period, and starting from the semester where program courses are presented for the first time, regardless whether students register for each semester. Students who fail, or are otherwise unable to complete their program, are dismissed from the University.”

Doctorate Degree Program:

ARTICLE 30 (7) The period of study for thesis graduate degree programs is eight semesters, to be completed within at most twelve semesters, excluding the scientific preparation period, and starting from the semester where program courses are presented for the first time, regardless whether students register for each semester. The period for students admitted with a graduate degree is ten semesters under the same conditions, to be completed in fourteen semesters, at most. The maximum period to complete credit courses required for doctorate programs is two years for those admitted with a graduate degree and three years for those admitted with an undergraduate degree. Students failing to complete their credit courses, or to achieve the minimum CGPA required by the University in this period are dismissed. Students who complete their credit courses, pass their doctorate proficiency exam successfully, and have their dissertation proposal accepted; but are unable to complete their thesis studies within twelve or fourteen semesters, are dismissed from the University.”

 

Double Major Programs

Directive on Double Major Programs

(ARTICLE 6 - (6) Senate Resolution dated 07.12.2021 no. 16) The registration of students not having taken any courses in their double major programs in two semesters consecutively shall be annulled.”

ARTICLE 7 - (2) (Senate Resolution dated 18.12.2019 no. 10) Students’ CGPA may drop under 2.72 over 4.00 only once during their entire double major program studies. In cases where students’ GPA drops below 2.72/ 4.00 in a double major program for a second time, their double major program shall be suspended.”

 

Minor Programs

Directive on Minor Programs

ARTICLE 4 - (5) Students may register in only one minor program during their undergraduate degree education. Registration of students who have not taken any courses from their minor program in two semesters consecutively shall be annulled.”

ARTICLE 6 - (2) Students are required to have a minimum GPA of 2.00/ 4.00 in their major program in order to continue their minor program studies. Otherwise, their minor program is canceled.”

ARTICLE 6 - (3) Students who have completed their major program successfully but not their minor program are given a maximum of two semesters as an extension as per the relevant resolution by relevant executive boards. Registration of students who are unable to graduate from their minor program at the end of this additional period shall be annulled.”

 

English Preparatory School

Regulations on the Principles for Foreign Language Teaching and Education in Foreign Languages at Higher Education Institutions

ARTICLE 8/ 4/ c) Students unable to complete their preparatory school courses within two years are exmatriculated from the program.

 

Details on Maximum Periods of Study

Conditions that apply when determining the maximum periods of study for students registered in Associate/ Undergraduate and Graduate degree programs:

  • The semesters and periods of course registration, suspension, or temporary debarment count towards the maximum period of study.

  • Leaves of absence do not count towards the maximum period of study.

  • The maximum period of study is calculated from the assignment semester calculated as a result of the exemption transactions due to the previous education of students (student transfer, DGS exams etc.).
