Course Objectives This course aims to explain the changes seen in the hearing system in old age, to interpret the results of audiological tests in the presence of age-related hearing loss, to learn the amplification and rehabilitation approaches that should be recommended as a result of the test.
Course Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • Explain the importance of the elderly period, evaluation and interventions related to this period.
  • Know the anatomical and physiological changes in the hearing system due to aging.
  • Know the risk factors of hearing loss in old age and current literature.
  • Determine the appropriate audiologic test battery to evaluate the changes in the hearing system due to aging.
  • Know the psychosocial and cognitive effects of hearing loss in the elderly patient.
  • Know post-diagnostic amplification and rehabilitation approaches in the elderly patient.
Course Content Demographic and biological characteristics of aging, changes in the hearing and balance system due to aging, and audiological evaluation of the geriatric patient, the basics of instrumentation and rehabilitation.
