Course Objectives The aim of this course is to provide basic knowledge about literacy skills and early literacy development in children.
Course Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • Learn the differences between early literacy and literacy skills
  • Learn the developmental changes in literacy skills during childhood
  • Have knowledge about children's literature
  • Learn how children's literacy skills can be assessed.
  • Learn the differences between the literacy skills of normally developing children and children with hearing loss
  • They have information about how to choose books for children with hearing loss.
Course Content Defining the basic concepts of literacy and children's literature, criteria for choosing suitable books for children with age and hearing loss, the importance of reading interactive books, examining the development of literacy in children from birth to school period.
