ECTS - - Industrial Design before 2016

50 courses of the program (including summer courses) consist of 7 compulsory courses and 11 elective courses. Elective courses begin in the 3rd semester and continue in the following semesters. Students may choose other courses from the departments of the faculty as well as the other from departments of the other faculties; and they can choose the courses from the course pool if the credits of the courses match. The courses in the program are for only one semester and the courses except the theoretical ones are generally based on practice. Prerequisite courses are included in the schedule.

 

The program includes three compulsory summer courses.  All summer courses are for 20 work days. In the end of the first year, there is also Computer Internship which is completed in the lab of our department which aims to improve computer skills. In the end of the 2nd year, students continue their summer course (production) in an “industrial firm” where they improve their technical knowledge. In the end of the 3rd year, there is a summer course in a “design office” where they improve their knowledge and skill of design.

 

In the first year of the program, there are practical courses such as Basic Design, Design Communication and theoretical courses including general knowledge such as Introduction to Industrial Design, History of Art and History of Culture.  In the second year of the program, there are both practical and theoretical courses which focus on professional knowledge and skills such as Product design, Technical Drawing, Visualization, Design History, Ergonomics, Structure, Material and Manufacturing Method, Design Aided with Computer.

 

From the third year of the program, students may improve their skills through their individual choices due to elective courses which vary as Professional English, Marketing, Design Management

 

In the fourth year, students conduct a project with firms before graduation and they can choose elective courses which interest them and prepare them to professional practice such as Professional Practices and Portfolio Design.
