EÜT101 - Basic Design I (4 + 6) 12

This course, which is introductory in terms of the basic concepts of design, aims to develop visual and creative thinking. In parallel with the theoretical infrastructure provided, the course includes practical applications at abstract and conceptual levels. With the help of these applications, students’ adoption of basic material knowledge and structural principles is intended. The course aims to teach students how to evaluate design problems with different perspectives, how to solve these problems and how to present solutions for these problems through the basic visualization techniques such as sketching and model making. These processes and presentations take place in an interactive studio environment. In this way, the visual and verbal presentation skills of the students are intended to be developed.

EÜT102 - Basic Design II (4 + 6) 9

This course is the continuation of the basic design course EÜT 101, which is an introductory course for the basic concepts of design. It aims to develop the visual and creative thinking. In parallel with the theoretical infrastructure provided, the course includes practical applications at abstract and conceptual levels. With the help of these applications, students’ adoption of basic material knowledge and structural principles is intended. EÜT111 - Design Communication Techniques I (2 + 2) 6

The course covers the following subjects: Basics of geometry and drawing. Perceiving basic drawing concepts such as line, proportion, composition in 2D, Perceiving basic drawing concepts such as line, proportion, composition in 3D, Strengthening 2D and 3D perception with object drawings, Technical drawing, ortographic drawing, axonometric, isometric and oblique drawing; dimensioning and informing on the drawing, use of sheet.

EÜT112 - Design Communication Techniques II (2 + 2) 6

Basic information on perspective for three dimensional product visualization and design drawings is provided. Exercises on three dimensional objects with single point, two point and three point perspective methods are carried out.The surfaces developed through the use of basic geometric forms are represented with methods such as section drawings, manufacturing drawings, dimensioning and in this way, the course aims to develop the representation skills that will be used during design and presentation process.

EÜT121 - Introduction to Industrial Design (2 + 0) 2

This is a theoretical course, which aims to introduce the profession of Industrial Design to students. The course includes general information on the technical, artistic and sociological contents of the profession and in this way, the basis for the construction of students' knowledge on the design history and culture is intended to be formed.

EÜT141 - History of Art (2 + 0) 2

During the course, the art of the civilizations from man’s first emergence to the present day, the phases they have undergone and art styles are discussed; relationship and interactions between natural environment, socio-economic structure, political and social order, technology, religion and civilizations in the development of art are examined. Prehistoric, Protohistoric, Early History and Historical Periods, Mesopotamian, Egyptian, Ancient Greek and Roman works of art are introduced, Roman Gothic, Renaissance, Mannerism, Baroque, Rococo, 19th and 20th century etc. styles are studied with examples.

The course aims to continue and develop the habit of creative thinking obtained in the basic design courses and to read the design principles over products. It is a process of solving design problems given with an emphasis on functional and aesthetic requirements by considering design criteria such as innovation, aesthetic, product language and user-product interaction. In this process, scenarios for product usage are developed through systematic thinking. Through these conceptual methods, producible and usable product design solutions are intended to be developed.

EÜT202 - Industrial Design II (4 + 6) 13

Solving basic product design problems, basic systems, products with few parts, three dimensional form development, basic model making, use of materials. Design of simple consumer products, material trials, the use of simple mechanisms. Concept development for the design problem, conceptual project application.

EÜT211 - Design Communication Techniques III (2 + 2) 5

During product design process, perspective drawings are made to develop hand-eye-brain coordination. The course also covers the principles of light, reflection, shade and shading. Perspective views of the three dimensional examples from daily life, which have various surfaces and materials, are structured and coloring and shading exercises are carried out within the context of these principles. Applications regarding the solid geometry, intersections and expansions are conducted.

EÜT212 - Structure (3 + 0) 3

The course covers the overview of the basic structure concepts and construction of application projects with simple materials. It is a theoretical course including the physical and mechanical properties of materials, types of loads and forces applied on the objects, pressure and form deformations resulting from pressure, properties of objects and materials such as rigidity and the effects of elasticity, tensile, compression, bending and folding actions.

The course aims to understand the development of product design from prehistoric times to industrial revolution and to today through the examples from the world and Turkey.

Within the scope of industrial design, besides the basic concepts in ergonomics, theoretic and practical discussion on concepts such as physical and cognitive ergonomics, universal design, user experience.

EÜT241 - Computer Aided Design I (2 + 2) 4

The course begins with the transfer of the knowledge of two dimensional project design. Through the use of 3D modelling techniques, solid modelling and NURBS modelling, the course aims to enable students to convert their designs to the third dimension on digital environment. Besides modelling, the course covers the preperation of projects for presentation through material editing and rendering techniques. Rhinoceros and 3DS Max will be taught within the scope of the course.

EÜT242 - Computer Aided Design II (2 + 2) 4

Using solid modelling and NURBS modelling, which are three dimensional modelling techniques, the students make 3d model of their designs. Besides modelling, the course covers subjects such as material editing and preperation of the projects through rendering techniques. Rhinoceros and 3D Studio Max will be taught throughout the course.

EÜT251 - Materials and Manufacturing Methods (3 + 0) 3

The course focuses on the general characteristics of the materials and material focused production methods in order to choose the right material and production method in the design process. In order to strengthen the theoretical knowledge that the students obtain in the course, visits to industrial organizations, which carry out production with various materials and production methods, will be organized.

EÜT261 - Model Making (1 + 2) 3

Throughout the course, the importance and necessity of model making in the product design process are emphasized. In Model Making course, model making techniques with the use of various materials are introduced to students. In order to assist the professional development of the students, during the model making process, students pay attention to hand skill, accuracy, precision and cleanness.

The conceptually developed projects are expected to meet the design requirements such as usability, producability, aesthetics, innovation, interaction with the user. The projects are evaluated by the juries in an interactive studio environment.

EÜT302 - Industrial Design IV (4 + 6) 15

The course covers issues such as the definition of design in the enterprises, various design disciplines, development of design management, the role of design as a competitive tool, the role of design in the corporate strategies, corporate identity and its management, human resources for design profession, project management in design.

EÜT321 - Marketing (3 + 0) 3

This course is prepared for industrial design students and explains the major characteristics of marketing and its importance in big enterprises. It covers the role of marketing in business organizations and basic concepts and definitions in marketing.

EÜT322 - Meaning in Design (3 + 0) 3

The meaning arising from the form in the formation of design language is explored, linking the form and content is focused. Design is approached as a visual text and examined within the framework of concepts and theories of semiotics. Discussions are carried out on the development of image in the factors constructing the intercultural similarities and differences in the creation of form.

French Revolution; structure and geopolitic positioning of Ottoman Empire, reasons of its decline; Westernization movements, First and Second Constitutional Monarchy declarations; Libya and Balkan wars; First World War; period before the War of Independence, congresses, National Pact, establishment of Turkish Grand National Assembly.

HIST102 - Principles of Atatürk and History of Turkish Revolution II (2 + 0) 2

War of Independence; Lausanne Treaty; declaration of the Republic; removal of sultanic rule and caliphate; Atatürk`s revolutions; establishment of national economy; Second World War, before and after; Turkish Republic after 1960.

ORY400 - Participation in Social and Cultural Activities (0 + 0) 1

Students must attend at least one social/cultural activity in each semester or at least two activities in each academic year. The activities are announced on the webpage of the departments. The students get an attendance certificate for the participation of each activity. To get a passing grade from this course, students should submit these certificates to their advisors.
