Course Objectives The aim of this course is to develop the knowledge of the students about the characteristics of popular literature by focusing on a range of genres such as science fiction, fantasy, gothic, horror fiction and romance by analyzing selected works by notable writers. Some related articles by noteworthy critics will be also given to the students to develop their theoretical background information about popular literature. At the end of the course the students are expected to broaden their knowledge about the characteristics of popular literature, develop their skills of analyzing popular literary works. They will also have the opportunity to reflect on how the course material resonates for them in light of their own experiences, the worlds they live in and the public issues in which they are invested.
Course Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • know and are able to define the general features of popular literature,
  • are able to analyse and understand the popular literature features in selected works,
  • are able to generate discussions on the selected works in terms of form, style and meaning.
