Course Objectives The course aims to prepare the students for simultaneous interpreting and to enable the students to improve analytical thinking skills to understand the message of any kind of speech. It also provides for memory and retention development of the students through exercises in many different subjects and styles of interpretation.
Course Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • Students developed memory and retention skills
  • Students acquired dual task skills including listening and producing the same message in the target language
  • Students improved analytical thinking skills covering the skills to understand the basic points of the messages embedded in the conference or any kind of speech text.
  • Students learned and applied basic simultaneous interpreting strategies such as generalization, omission, chunking or finding pat phases
  • Students developed skills regarding how to manage their stress during simultaneous interpreting in booth, and how to cooperate with their colleagues in the booth.
  • Students enhanced their terminology knowledge by practicing with speeches on various topics.
Course Content Simultaneous interpreting of various speeches on different topics; booth manners; stress management during simultaneous interpreting; coping strategies for simultaneous interpreting.
