Course Objectives The main objective of the course is to improve the simultaneous interpreting skills of the students through extensive interpreting exercises. Students are expected to develop strategies on how to manage their stress and how to cope with different types of speakers and different accents of non-native English speakers.
Course Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • Students enhance and improve their simultaneous and on-sight interpreting skills.
  • Students become aware of the ethics and working conditions of conference interpreters.
  • Students learn how to apply various strategies to cope with the difficulties encountered in real life.
  • Students learn how to manage their stress during simultaneous interpreting in booth, and cooperate with their colleagues in the booth.
  • Students improve their communicative skills.
Course Content Simultaneous interpreting of 10-15 minute-longs speeches on various topics; brief history of conference interpreting in the world and Turkey; mock conference exercises; video conference practices; ethics and standards in conference interpreting.
