Course Objectives The course is intended to help students to develop skills within a theoretical framework for the translation of the EU texts. It helps students understand the basic concepts and EU rhetoric used in the European Union studies both in Turkish and English and translate various types of EU texts such as regulations, directives and recommendations.
Course Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • To learn to analyse the texts linguistically and extra-linguistically
  • To learn the terminology and concepts of the texts
  • To carry out language studies for translational purposes
  • To improve translation skills
  • To learn the main functions of the institutions of the EU
  • To apply the theoretical information of applied linguistics through the translation of acquis communautaire
  • To develop a critical outlook to translated texts of the EU on the basis of native and foreign language awareness.
  • To develop skills in order to translate texts on EU texts from English into Turkish and from Turkish into English as acceptable and functional texts
Course Content Texts regarding relations with the EU; the nature and characteristics of the acquis communautaire; the sources of difficulty in translation of EU texts; EU terminology.
