In this regard, the University is committed to energy efficiency and management measures which in addition to meeting all legal requirements, aim to minimize energy wastage and optimize the use of low-carbon and renewable energy sources.  The policy intends to direct the way energy is managed at the University, wastage is kept to a minimum, and usage of low-carbon and renewable technologies may be optimized at the MOG Campus at Atılım University. The University is committed to the formation of a green campus concept and contributes to its local environmental protection.

Atılım University is committed to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals through its energy policy to make the University a sustainable, energy-efficient green campus. This energy policy applies to all operations and activities of the University including building construction, renovation, and transportation for improving energy efficiency through the installation of energy-efficient systems and use of renewable energy sources.  Environment protection; efficient electricity, and gas usage with fossil fuel use reduction in various activities undertaken by the University are the relevant aspects of the policy.

Policy Implementation

Atılım University undertakes a desirable process to increase energy efficiency, to reduce dependence on non-renewable energy sources, and to encourage the development of renewable energy alternatives  through  the Directorate of Technical  Services.  Atılım  University  also considers  the  energy  efficiency  of  its  new  buildings,  develops  the existing  infrastructure by increasing its energy efficiency, and implements new infrastructure projects while adhering to renewable and energy-efficient construction through The Directorate of Construction.

Policy Scope

The purpose of the policy is to present the approaches of Atılım University to energy efficiency and management in line with environmental requirements. The purpose of the policy is to serve as a component of natural dedication to improve and promote energy efficiency and conservation at the MOG Campus at Atılım University. All University staff, students, tenants, and visitors are responsible for dedicated effort, collectively and individually for energy efficiency in every aspect.

Policy Statement

Atılım University is committed to implementing advanced energy efficiency standards across all university buildings and facilities, including new constructions and renovations, to reduce energy consumption and limit carbon emissions. This policy aims to create an environmentally sustainable campus that contributes to global environmental goals and raises awareness about the importance of energy efficiency.

Atılım University endeavors to practice responsible energy management throughout all campus activities and facilities commensurate with the service requirements of staff and students.  The University provides dedicated commitment, an appropriate   management structure, and cost-effective resources to achieve these standards, contributing to environmental improvement and long-term sustainability for the 7th and the 13th Sustainable Development Goal (SDG).

Atılım University strives to continuously improve energy efficiency throughout our facilities and operations. This includes the efficient use of electricity, fossil fuels, and other energy sources. The university actively pursues energy-saving initiatives, such as the installation of energy-efficient equipment and systems, implementing energy management practices, and raising awareness among students and staff concerning energy conservation. The university develops energy optimization that identifies the areas of improvement in energy management and potential interventions that the university puts in place to optimize energy efficiency in its buildings.

Atılım University intends to expand on this pathway to explore opportunities to generate renewable energy on-site and procure electricity from renewable sources whenever feasible, and economically viable. The university aims to increase the proportion of renewable energy in our overall energy mix to allow us to decrease greenhouse gas emissions associated with energy use. The university assesses the available options to improve the use of green energy across our campus and develops solar energy plans to maximize the use of renewables based on this assessment.

Measuring, monitoring, and validating electricity and gas usage is a priority in terms of energy efficiency at the MOG Campus.  Atılım University is part of a monitoring and measurement system which is to ensure the effectiveness of campus energy management efforts. The system includes tracking energy consumption, identifying areas of high energy use, and setting energy reduction targets. Regular energy audits are conducted to assess performance and identify opportunities for improvement in energy consumption areas.

Atılım University investigates the feasibility of renewable energy sources being incorporated into our energy supply. All new construction and major renovation efforts of the University involve designs to meet or exceed energy efficiency standards, and these designs incorporate the latest energy-efficient technologies and building practices through the implementation of solar power systems on the roof of every building. The University considers the suitability of space from an energy efficiency perspective whilst seeking to maximize utilization of space and prevent heating and cooling of unoccupied spaces in the sense that the rational use of space is crucial to the ability of the University to conserve energy use.

The University has replaced inefficient lighting with energy-efficient lighting, such as LED lights. Lighting is designed to rely on natural light wherever possible, and lighting controls are installed to ensure that lights are turned off when not in use. Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems are designed and operated   to optimize energy efficiency, while our set points to maintain indoor air quality temperatures are adjusted to reduce energy consumption, and occupancy sensors are used to ensure that heating and cooling are only provided when needed.

Heating and conditioning empty or underutilized spaces uses unnecessary energy and therefore the control of space use through effective governance and optimized space utilization is a significant part of the plan to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions. The building management system controls most of the heating ventilation, and air conditioning plants of the University, ensuring that buildings are operating efficiently; and their efforts involve reviewing our major energy-dependent equipment.

Our energy improvement initiatives are dedicated to the construction and refurbishment of buildings across the campus area. The best standards of energy efficiency are pursued to minimize the operational emissions over the lifecycle of the building in the construction of new buildings at Atılım University. Energy efficiency initiatives begin at the design stage, evaluating proposed technologies and material efficiency based on whole-life costing, rather than focusing solely on capital costs, all the while acknowledging the constraints of a finite budget.
