Course Objectives Gaining the knowledge about the issues derived from biological, psychological and sociological factors that affect individual and public health. Acquiring management knowledge and skills about the methods and applications that can be used at the individual and public level to prevent or solve these problems.
Course Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • Knows the development of healthy child, follows-up growth and development of healthy child at primary level.
  • Knows pediatric immunization programme and applies it effectively.
  • At primary level takes the general and problem oriented anamnesis of adult and pediatric patients and performs systemic and specific physical examination, chooses appropriate and necessary tests for diagnosis.
  • Makes differential diagnosis of the disease by evaluating the findings of anamnesis and physical examination together with the results of the laboratory or imaging examinations and makes preliminary diagnosis or diagnosis.
  • Plans and applies the treatment according to diagnosis of the disease and, refers patient in an appropriate manner in case of necessity.
  • Applies knowledge and skills of preventive medicine for prevention and early diagnosis of common adulthood diseases and cancers.
  • Applies knowledge and skills of preventive medicine for prevention and early diagnosis of common childhood diseases.
  • Recognizes emergency conditions/diseases seen in adulthood and in childhood, evaluates the patient and performs the required first intervention and refers the patient appropriately.
  • Knows contraceptive methods, informs users about these methods and follows-up the users.
  • Makes diagnosis of pregnancy, performs pregnant examination and follows-up normal pregnant.
  • Performs normal spontaneous delivery and makes postpartum mother and baby care.
  • Recognizes emergency gynecological and obstetric conditions/diseases, evaluates the patient and performs the required first intervention and refers the patient appropriately.
  • Performs basic medical procedures such as taking blood sample, taking urine sample, heel lance, taking vaginal and cervical specimens, ECG, peripheral blood smear, injection.
  • Knows issues and applications about occupational health and safety.
  • Knows the basic issues related to environmental health and the effects of environmental health on community and individual health. Contributes to the improvement of environmental and community health.
  • Improves professional knowledge and skills by following updated topics related to medicine, renewed and changed diagnosis and treatment approaches.
  • Keeps the written and electronic medical records appropriately, and makes necessary reports and notifications at the primary level.
  • Acts in accordance with ethical values in the communication with patients, relatives, colleagues and other healthcare professionals.
  • Knows the health system and its legislation.
Course Content Normal pregnancy follow-up; infant and child follow-up; vaccination; family planning; common diseases in childhood and adulthood; prevention and early diagnosis of cancers; health services organization; occupational health and safety; contagious diseases; immigration; disasters; health indicators; determination of health care requirements.
