Course Objectives Be able to reach to a diagnosis in cases which treats life and gain the knowledge of treatment of these cases; to provide emergency treatment and life support to the patients, to know the anaesthesiology methods and agents in treatment, to have knowledge about critical patient care in intensive care unit, to have knowledge about the relief of pain.
Course Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • Diagnose the conditions which threaten the life and plans the treatment accurately
  • Follow the vital functions in patients who need critical care medicine
  • Know the treatment methods necessary in respiratory system disorders and can apply all of them
  • Can be able to diagnose cardiopulmonary arrest and make the treatment
  • Know the necessary basic vital function support and serious vital function support applications
  • Make the first aid treatment to trauma patients and if necessary apply serious vital function support applications
  • In cases of emergency; know the indications of drugs and intravenous fluids for application
  • Know local anaesthesia, general anaesthesia and their toxic effects
  • Perform teamwork in operation theatre and intensive care unit
  • Can explain the physiopathology of shock and know its treatment
  • Can explain the physiopathology of acute respiratory insufficiency and know the emergency treatment
  • Know the common types of intoxication and can explain the treatment methods
  • Know the emergency medicine in suffocation, electric shock, freezing, anaphylaxis and animal bites
  • Take the anamnesis of patient having acute or chronical pain, make the physical examination and plan the treatment protocol.
Course Content Hypoxia, hypoxemia and oxygen therapy; cardiopulmonary resuscitation; first aid and advanced life in trauma; neurophysiology of acute and chronic pain; general anesthetics; brain diagnostic criteria of death and donor care; local anesthetics and toxicity; sepsis; acute respiratory failure; drowning, bending, electric shock and freezing; acid and base balance; shock; poisoning; algology.
