Course Objectives The aim of this course is to increase the level of knowledge about the basic concepts, causes and classification of child neglect and abuse, physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, abuse between children (peer bullying), the effects of abuse on children's development, prevention of neglect and abuse, services provided to children in need of protection,-child abuse center, hello child center-, helping children and families after abuse.
Course Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • He/she explains the basic concepts of child neglect and abuse.
  • He/she explains the causes of child abuse and neglect, explains in which aspects children are neglected and abused in the given examples, makes a case study.
  • He/she discusses the causes, symptoms and effects of physical abuse on the child and ways to prevent it.
  • He/she discusses the causes, symptoms and effects of sexual abuse on the child and ways to prevent it.
  • He/she discusses the causes, symptoms and effects of emotional abuse on the child and ways to prevent it.
  • He/she explains the characteristics of child abuse (peer bullying) and discusses ways to prevent it.
  • He/she discusses the characteristics of children in need of protection and the problems encountered in their accommodation and education.
  • In the examples given, he/she explains the aspects of neglect and abuse of children and brings the example cases to the class.
  • He/she finds, analyzes, summarizes and presents articles on child neglect and abuse.
Course Content Definition of neglect, abuse and violence, examination of the characteristics of neglected and abused children from various perspectives (development, socio-demographic etc.), identification of the child who is thought to be neglected or abused, planning the ways to be followed and following the process, in need of protection, working on the street, street definition of children and worker children, developmental characteristics of these children, information about the risks they may encounter.
