Course Objectives This course introduces students to the basic concepts and theories of the discipline of political science, its methodological approaches, and its relations with other disciplines. In this context, this course examines the concepts of politics, state, political thoughts and ideologies, democracy and legitimacy, nationalism etc. and fields of study. This course also aims to increase students' active participation in the lesson and develop their critical thinking skills by adopting active learning methods. Critical thinking is to evaluate the quality of a fact, information, event or claim according to certain criteria, that is, it can also be defined as thinking according to criteria. Critical thinkers can discern important issues, know how to evaluate information, can put abstract ideas into practice, are open-minded thinkers, are open to communicating and working together effectively with others. They can build their future by taking advantage of their past experiences. Becomes resistant to manipulation and propaganda. For these purposes, teaching methods such as watching and evaluating movies, playing games, role playing, which will provide active participation and discussion in the lesson, have been adopted and are explained in detail below.
Course Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • Explain the basic concepts, theoretical and methodological approaches of the discipline of political science.
  • Analyzes real-life events in an analytical framework using the basic concepts and approaches of political science.
  • Develops the ability to express the acquired knowledge and skills with a critical approach orally and in writing.

5 Dangerous Game (Die Welle, 2008) movie screening and 1st assignment In the lesson, the movie "Die Welle" will be watched and then a class discussion will be held in which we evaluate the subject, purpose, results of the movie in terms of concepts such as politics, political behavior, political ideas and ideology. Based on the movie and the class discussion, students answered the question in Moodle to max. 300 words as their first homework.

11 Persepolis (2007) movie and 2nd assignment In the lesson, the movie called Persepolis will be watched and then a class discussion will be held in which we evaluate the subject, purpose, results of the movie in the context of concepts such as revolution, nation state, nation and ideology. Based on the movie and the class discussion, students answered the question in Moodle to max.300 words as their second homework.
