Course Objectives At fist step course tells that which event can be turned into news and students are taught to turn events suitable for news into news. News Gathering and Writing is one of the basic courses in journalism education and in the scope of this course, students are taught to gather information from scene and write news according to this information. By doing this students are prepared to be a good journalist. Beside the practices conducted in the scope of the course, students are taught ethical values which every journalist must have.
Course Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • Students know the differences between news and event, they also know whether events are valuable to turn news or not.
  • Students know how to work in scene for gathering information and what kind of information they collect.
  • Students learn to behave deliberately toward news gathering processes by remembering their experiences.
  • Students learn to write news entrance and what kind of news entrances they should use. Students also learn that what kind of techniques they should use while writing news.
  • Students learn the language of news writing, its special statements, verbs, and time expressions.
  • Students learn the spelling rules of news and use them effectively while writing news.
  • Students learn to limit the information gathered for news according to word capacity of their news.
  • Students learn to turn press release into news by using news transferring statements.
Course Content Face to Face method will be used for the content of this course and lecturer will show every detail about the course.
